I was window-shopping at robinsons manila yesterday, then i went to powerbooks, hahanap san ako ng cheesy romance novel para makalimutan ko yung twilight (hahahah). tapos i saw this book called His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik. i was doubting at first kasi the title was kinda typical... kasi the word "majesty" and "dragons" eh lagi na ginagamit as title. still i bought it, together with JRR Tolkien's The Silmarillion.
right now im on the third chapter, and i must say its a good book.
This alternate reality revolves around Captain William Laurence and his dragon Temeraire. he's a british Royal navy around the time of napoleon. he seizes a dragon's egg from a French frigate, and later on it hatched and Temeraire, the dragon, was born. In this alternate reality, dragons exist for real and are used by many countries as mainstays of their aerial forces.
since he was the first person Temeraire saw, it immediately imprints upon Laurence, akin to a hatchling imprinting upon its parent. Hence, Capt. william had no choice but to give up his rank and join the aerial force.
really promising. i'll write a review as soon as i finish the book. =D
